How to add automatic transmission fluid 2005 Ford Mustang, 2005 Ford Mustang. I just replaced the transmission oil pan gasket. Now I need to fill it. So I used a tire valve stem and removed the valve core, got a 4 foot hose and funnel. I drilled the core diameter bigger so oil will flow much faster. It took some time for the fluid to get it into the trans but it works. Each quart took about 2 minutes to fill. Used about 3-4 quarts.
TO DRAIN: There is a TWO-PIECE drain/fill plug on the bottom of the transmission pan. Get your 22mm wrench and remove the drain plug.
TO FILL: Using a TX-30 Torx type socket, remove the center plug. Use the modified filler like in my video, fill the transmission with Ford Mercon V fluid, until fluid runs back out.
There is no way to see the fluid level. because it does not have a dipstick.
So you have to tighten the plug, start the car and leave running for about 10-15 minutes to get trans fluid between 27°- 49°C (80°-120°F) . go under and then remove the center plug, allow the fluid to drain. Make sure that the fluid temperature is between 27°- 49°C (80°-120°F) . When the fluid comes out as a thin stream or drip, the fluid is at the correct level.Certified Used Car Technician @ Toyota Dealership, Henderson, NV.
